Preparing for your first class at Reading Bees

We aim to create confident, capable learners, no matter where they are in their learning journey.

Your first class with Reading Bees is often the most exciting! Each lesson offers many magical moments. Preparing for your first class is easy. Here’s what you can expect…

What do I need on my first day?

Just yourself, a smile and a drink bottle! Everything else is provided.

*Please* DO NOT bring any food to Reading Bees. Due to allergies, we do not allow food in our learning studios.

My child has allergies. Do you need their action plan?

If your child has allergies/food intolerances, please inform Reading Bees before your child’s first class. We need a copy of your child’s Action Plan before their first trial or regular class with us.

What do I bring to each class?

After booking a class and paying your term fees, your child will receive a workbook (in a plastic folder) in a Reading Bees tote bag. When your child begins borrowing readers in the Kinder Program, they will be sent home in your child’s plastic folder. Please bring your child’s workbook and a drink bottle to class each week (with the reader to return/swap).

Can I stay in class with my child?

Reading Bees classes are drop-off/pick-up — just like kinder or school.

Drop-off classes
For kinder-aged students, this is part of the experience. Learning to feel confident being away from you and knowing you’ll be back is an important school readiness skill we actively support.

Trial classes
We encourage parents to stay and watch during trial lessons. It’s a great way to see the magic of class for the first time! You’re welcome to leave if you prefer, but most families love being there.

Settling in
Once enrolled, some children take a little time to adjust to a new environment, and that’s completely normal.

If your child needs extra support with separation, please let us know so our educators can work with you on the day to make it as smooth as possible.

What if I need to miss a class?

Per Reading Bees’ policies, all student absences must be reported more than 2 hours before your child’s class starts. Please always let us know; every absence reported makes a huge difference. This ensures you can transfer your child’s absence to a makeup lesson on an alternative date.

All student absences must be reported via the Reading Bees app, which immediately notifies your child’s educator.  The spot opens up for another family who’d love to use it for their makeup lesson. It helps us plan staffing accurately, keeping unnecessary costs (and class fees) down for everyone. It means families aren’t unintentionally holding a spot others could be using. Reporting absences will not be accepted via email or text. Follow these instructions.
