The Reading Bees Why
Reading Bees began in 2013 out of a school teacher's frustration
Three and four-year-olds weren’t getting access to phonics instruction!
So she started teaching a small group in her lounge room.
That single class has become something much bigger.
Today, we run 8 learning studios across Melbourne, serving over 1,000 students aged 3-9 each term.
We’ve helped more than 10,000 children become confident readers, writers and spellers.
Our approach is systematic phonics that actually works. And it makes learning feel genuinely fun. It matters when you’re working with young kids who need to stay engaged.
We keep class sizes small. Every student gets real attention from qualified educators who know how to make literacy exciting.
We run classes Monday to Saturday during school terms. Our programs cover PreKinder, Kinder and Primary levels.
Reading Bees is locally owned and operated by a speech pathologist who specialises in early literacy. Meet Mel Knight. Mel is supported by over 50 highly trained educators and assistants, as well as her right-hand woman, Rach, who always helps keep the hive buzzing. That means we bring both teaching expertise and a deep understanding of how children learn to read.
