Preparing for your first class at Reading Bees

We aim to create confident, capable learners, no matter where they are in their learning journey.

Your first class with Reading Bees is often the most exciting! Each and every lesson carries many magical moments. Preparing for your first class is easy. Here’s what you can expect…

What do I need on my first day?

Just yourself, a smile and a drink bottle! Everything else is provided.

*Please* DO NOT bring any food to Reading Bees. Due to allergies, we do not allow food in our learning studios. If your child has allergies/food intolerances, please inform Reading Bees before your child’s first class. We may request a copy of your child’s Action Plan.

What do I bring to each class?

After booking a class and paying your term fees, your child will receive a workbook (in a plastic folder) in a Reading Bees tote bag. When your child begins borrowing readers in the Kinder Program, they will be sent home in your child’s plastic folder. Please bring your child’s workbook and a drink bottle to class each week (with the reader to return/swap).

Can I stay in class with my child?

Reading Bees classes are designed to be drop-off/pick-up—the same as you would expect at kinder or school. This is a crucial element of the school readiness we aim to develop for our PreKinder and Kinder students: building your child’s confidence when away from you, knowing you’ll be back to pick them up.

We understand that some children take some time to settle into new surroundings. Especially if it’s their first class or trial, when parents don’t stay to watch on the sidelines. Please speak with us if your child needs extra support in separating from you, so our educators can work with you on the day to ensure the happiest outcome.

What if I need to miss a class?

Per Reading Bees’ policies, all student absences must be reported more than 2 hours before your child’s class starts. This ensures you can transfer your child’s absence to a makeup lesson on an alternative date.

All student absences must be reported via the Reading Bees app, which immediately notifies your child’s educator, thereby freeing up class time for another student to book a makeup lesson. Reporting absences will not be accepted via email or text.

If you have any questions at all about your first class with Reading Bees, please contact us. We are always happy to help.
